About institute

The Institute of Language and Literature is organized in 1934, which is one of the major research centers of folklore, literature and linguistics. In the institute there are 8 scientific departments, which conduct fundamental research on folklore, history of Uzbek literature, literature of the XX century, Modern literature, the theory of literature, literary relationships and translation theory, the history of the Uzbek language, dialectology and the comparative study of Turkic languages, modern Uzbek language, Terminology, Lexicology and lexicography.
In the Institute has more than 60 scientific and technical staff. Among them: 1 - Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, 8 - doctors, 20 - PhD, 8 - senior scientists and researchers. Since 1958, the institute bimonthly periodical published "Uzbek language and literature” journal. Currently, the Institute carries out fundamental research on the publication of 15 volume "History of the Uzbek folklore and history," 3 volume "Theory of Literature" 5 volume "Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek language”, "Orthography dictionary Uzbek", "Russian-Uzbek, Uzbek-Russian dictionary, “Dictionary of the language of classical literature” and etc.
Mutual cooperation with literary critics, linguists, folklorists leading research centers in the USA, Germany, France, Slovakia, Japan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, as well as organizing scientific conferences, symposium and round tables with their participation is important aspect of the activities of the Institute. In addition, the institute studied in postgraduate school and has passed scientific training citizens of the USA, Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, who defended candidate and doctoral dissertations on topical issues of the Uzbek language and literature. They still continue their scientific research. The participation of researchers of the Institute in the "National program for personnel training"

Between our Institute and Departments of the Uzbek language and literature of the Higher Institutions compiled multiyear contracts scientific and practical cooperation. On the basis of these contracts, 12 leading scientists of the Institute carry out their work as professors and lecturers in the magistracy of higher education institutions, 14 research staff - in a bachelor degree, 23 research staff - in high schools and colleges. In addition, the institute trained on a contract basis citizens of foreign countries (USA, Japan, Korea), specializing in linguistics and literature theories.

Rare objects (folk archive)

Folklore Archives (it united with folk Fund abolished the Institute of Manuscripts named Kh.Suleymanova) is considered a rare object containing priceless examples of oral folk art, from the narrators recorded several generations of folklore, since the 20th of the XX century to the present day. The total number of documents stored in the folklore archive after the founder of the Uzbek folklore, the famous scientist Zarif Khadi is 2000 archival units. The number of documents from the fund of the former folk Institute of Manuscripts named Kh.Suleymanova – more than 11,000 units. Here are kept rare folk poem, the amount of which varies from 50-100 pages 400-500 pages, songs, the texts of which can be from one page to 100 pages, legends, fairy tales and other works of folklore genres. Stored in this rare object folkloric patterns are written in the current period of fixation in the chart - Arabic, Cyrillic and Latin alphabet. There are also recording tape.

The Uzbek folk archive contains rare folklore monuments embody the centuries-old artistic thinking of our ancestors. Most of these works, in particular specimens of monumental epics - "Alpamish", "Gorogly", "Rustamkhon", "Kuntugmysh" today recognized as intangible cultural pearls not only the Uzbek people, but all peoples of the world.
